In Test matches, he is a pure bowler. But in 50-over cricket, I would rather have a batsman and a spinner,” Manjrekar had said. Jadeja had even reacted strongly to Manjrekar’s comments on Twitter.Still i have played twice the number of matches you have played and i m still playing. Learn to respect ppl who have achieved.i have heard enough of your verbal [email protected] jadeja (@imjadeja) July 3, 2019But it was Jadeja who kept India in the run chase against New Zealand with his 59-ball 77 which almost took the team past the finish line. Manjrekar was one of the first ones to appreciate the left-hander for his brave knock after the game. Sanjar Manjrekar wrote on Twitter, “Well played Jadeja” and added a wink at the end of his tweet.Well played Jadeja!Sanjay Manjrekar (@sanjaymanjrekar) July 10, 2019India fell 18 runs short of the target in the end as they got bowled out for 221 while chasing 240 against a strong New Zealand bowling attack which had reduced the Men in Blue to 6 for 92 by the 31st over.advertisementIt was then that Jadeja joined forces with MS Dhoni to bail India out of trouble with a 116-run partnership for the seventh-wicket. His knock, which included four boundaries and as many sixes, was ultimately brought to an end by Trent Boult in the 48th over after which the chase fell apart for India.Jadeja’s 11th ODI fifty also saw him become the first batsman to score over 50 runs in a World Cup knockout game. He had also picked up the wicket of Colin Munri, ran out New Zealand’s top-scorer Ross Taylor with a direct hit and took two important catches, that of Kane Williamson and Tom Latham, at important junctures in the game which helped India restrict the Kiwis to 239 for 8.But despite all that India could not overhaul the target due to the top-order collapse and thus, crashed out of the semis for the fourth time in World Cup history.Manjrekar, though, was quick to accept his mistake on the comment he made on Jadeja and said that the India all-rounder completely ripped him apart with his sheer brilliance on the field.”Bits and pieces he just ripped me apart today. By bits and pieces of sheer brilliance just proved me wrong on all fronts. But this Ravindra Jadeja we have not seen very often. In the last 40 innings his highest score was 33.”But today he was brilliant. Economical with the ball, and that familiar celebration that you see after he gets to his fifties,” Manjrekar said in a video posted by the ICC.”By bits ‘n’ pieces of sheer brilliance, he’s ripped me apart on all fronts.”@sanjaymanjrekar has something to say to @imjadeja after the all-rounder’s fantastic performance against New Zealand.#INDvNZ | #CWC19 pic.twitter.com/i96h5bJWpEICC (@ICC) July 10, 2019Jadeja brought out his familiar sword-wielding celebration after he got to his fifty but before that he pointed towards the stands and made a gesture which seemed to have been aimed at Manjrekar.”I have to apologise to him, he was looking for me but I wasn’t there. I was in the lounge taking my lunch, I’m sorry,” Manjrekar joked. Also Read | Ravindra Jadeja had hunger and determintation to do something special: Sachin TendulkarAlso Read | India vs New Zealand: Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni win hearts with heroic effortsAlso Read | Well played Ravindra Jadeja, says Sanjay Manjrekar with a winkFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
