Extreme Christmas Day fire warning for SA

first_imgWith temperatures expected to soar across South Australia on Friday, emergency services will be at the ready come Christmas Day.The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting temperatures to reach somewhere between the high 30s or low 40s, with the dangerous combination of northerly winds.According to South Australia’s Country Fire Service (CFS) state coordinator, Leigh Miller it is likely that up to 10 districts across the state will be issued fire bans and fire weather warnings, with the east and south-east expected to face the worst of it.“I can’t remember any [Christmas] day like this since I’ve been in CFS,” Mr Miller said, having served at the CFS for 29 years.“It is going to be a hot day, it’s going to be [a] windy day and even if there aren’t any fire bans it will still be a significant fire day with those types of conditions, so people need to think about their plans for Christmas.“They also need to think about their bushfire survival plan, make sure they are up to date because there’s going to be a change of circumstances for their family on that day.”In the case that a total fire ban is issued, all solid-fuel cookers will be prohibited. “You can still use a gas or electric barbecue – just make sure there is someone in attendance at all times,” Mr Miller explained. An update on the official fire bans and danger ratings are expected to be announced today after 4.00 pm.Source: ABC News Facebook Twitter: @NeosKosmos Instagramlast_img read more
